Malavika Sarukkai is a renowned dancer and choreographer in Bharata Natyam, a classical Indian dance form. Her refined sensibilities and fine body intelligence have seen her emerge as a brilliant choreographer inventing a deeply compelling style of her own and she is today acclaimed for her creative dance choreographies. Her collaborative productions have synergized through dialogues with artists from different media – poets, musicians, painters, sculptors and contemporary writers.
Malavika Sarukkai’s work is celebrated by critics, connoisseurs and the general public and she has participated in major dance festivals in India and abroad including at Jacob‘s Pillow, UCLA, Asia Society and the Smithsonian Institution in USA; Theatre de la Ville, France.; Edinburgh Main Festival, UK etc. The Government of India has awarded her the Padmashree and the Sangeet Natak Academy Award.
